This week was a very interesting week. There were just so many things going on. Overall I think it was a fantastic week.
First off, we didn’t want to drive all the way down to Oxnard because of the scheduled media workout, which was on Saturday; I didn’t feel like going back and forth. So luckily, I had a text from “Rapid Fire” Glenn Gonzales because I called him a few weeks before, but they just now approved him to spar with me, so my wife and I ended up driving to Salinas and back after I ran in the morning.
On Wednesday is when I had my first sparring. I sparred four rounds and I felt really good. I’ve been running real good this whole week.
On Thursday which was really fun, we went on a radio show with Mark Litchenfield “Through the Ropes”. That was pretty fun because I got to host a little bit and talk about lots of stuff about boxing. That same night I picked up Dodie Boy Penalosa from the airport so I have two coaches now. Yay for me!
Then on Friday, I sparred again another four rounds and I felt a lot better this time. I felt like I was pushing more and felt real good.
Then came Saturday, which was the media workout. I came in a little bit early and there were people there already waiting for me. They had gloves, photos, and they were just real excited to be there. And then after I started stretching, I didn’t notice more and more people were coming in and when I started shadow boxing everyone’s eyes were towards me. I just felt the fire inside of me when everyone was watching me. It pushed me to train hard. Whew! I was gasping for air but I was just motivated to bust open the mitts Jonathon was holding for me. People were clapping each round that went by. I guess they were impressed by the speed and power but most of all, the way I pushed myself. And then I went to the double end and pretty much the whole time I was training they were there around me they migrated. I never had a public workout like that before with so much support. Everyone was having such a good time. Everything was going really well.
And then I heard the news about Gatti, RIP. That was pretty shocking. I told everybody and everybody felt it. I just want to say peace to Gatti. He was a helluva fighter- a true fighter and warrior. One of those guys I was looking at when I was little and when my dad asked me if I wanted to box I said hell no because I saw all the blood from Gatti’s fights. I do appreciate how true of a warrior he was, so to Gatti RIP.
To get back to Saturday, a lot of people stuck around to buy t-shirts and to buy statues of me. Thanks guys btw. Now this wouldn’t be possible without the major players in this event to happen. First off it was my wife’s idea to do this so yay for her. Thank you babe. She had planned it out for my fans to come and see me, train and meet me and see how the boxing environment is. She worked really hard for it. We went back and forth to see if anyone was willing to take part in the event. Luckily, we had Seniority (bread) from Ling Nam and I was joking to promote it by saying there will be 100s of Senioritas at the public workout. I thought it’d be really funny for the guys to think there would be girls in bikinis. I really wanted to twitter it but it would have been funny. So anywho, also Patio Filipino and Alimango gave good pancit and lumpia. You could never go to a pinoy event without lumpias. So thank you for the support and for the delicious food everyone enjoyed.
So yea, Rachel was back and forth talking to these people traveling here and there. Also her cousin helped her too and the guys from FilipinoFlash. Congrats Audie for your new baby girl Mya.
So later on that night, I didn’t get to see the Darchinyan fight live because we spent the whole night in church with the choir where Lola performed. I got a bunch of texts from a bunch of friends about the fight. I was just smiling throughout church because this week was just an interesting week. I was really eager to get home and see the fight because we had prerecorded it. So when I did get home I saw the fight and I’m just gonna honestly say that was a rough fight lol I guess that’s what u get with a lefty and right hand especially with an awkward fighter. Well I predicted that Agbeko was going to win the fight but he just didn’t knock him out. Congrats to King Kong. “King Kong in the ring not the movies.” Lol
Lastly, I just want to thank everyone, all the supporters that came to my public workout. I didn’t expect a lot of people but a lot of people came through. I had a great time and I just want to thank you all for showing up and giving your support. Definitely, this fight will go to you for helping me and inspiring me. I want to thank Ling Nam, and Patio Filipino, and Alimango once more. And to my lovely wife who made this event possible and to FFL crew for backing my wife up and assisting with everything. Thank u guys so much. The biggest thanks goes to u guys who showed up, gave your support, hope u guys had a great, great time, and hopefully next time, I’ll let you guys know ahead of time. Thank you guys for being there. Oh also, shout out to the people who drove from Salinas. Salamat kaayo sa inyong pag bisita!!!
